Think Pink: How Retail is Supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2025
Estée Lauder Companies Breast Cancer Campaign, 2023
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time when communities, families, and businesses come together in hope, remembrance, and action. Retail spaces, from bustling malls to cozy local shops, are proving that shopping can be more than a purchase; it can be a way to give back, raise awareness, and support life-saving research.
At Blue Butterfly, we believe wellness and purpose should be part of everyday life, even in the places you least expect, like your favorite mall or boutique. Here’s how retail is going pink in 2025, and how you can join the movement.
Why Retail Makes a Difference
Malls aren’t just for shopping; they’re hubs of community and connection. That’s what makes them such powerful allies in the fight against breast cancer. When pink ribbons, wellness pop-ups, donation-driven discounts, and themed events fill these spaces, a simple shopping trip transforms into an opportunity to make an impact. Whether it’s joining a walk, attending a yoga class, or donating while you shop, retail makes supporting a cause both fun and meaningful.
How Your Business Can Join the Movement
You don’t need to be a nationwide shopping center owner to make a difference, small businesses can play an important role, too. Donating a portion of October sales to nonprofits like Susan G. Komen® or the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) is a powerful first step. Many businesses also create limited-edition pink products or promotions, where proceeds go directly to research and support programs. Hosting wellness events, charity classes, or educational seminars can turn your space into a hub of awareness, while collaborating with nearby shops, cafés, or studios amplifies the impact through community. Even simple steps like sharing survivor stories on social media, decorating your space in pink, or creating a “hope wall” can inspire customers and remind them that their purchase carries purpose.
U.S. Shopping Centers Going Pink in 2025
Across the country, shopping centers are stepping up this October with creative campaigns that blend wellness, awareness, and community spirit.
In Los Angeles, Citadel Outlets is launching its annual Pink Saves campaign. Highlights include the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on October 18, a Yoga for a Cause + Brunch on October 26, and free on-site mobile mammograms on October 23–24. Shoppers can also purchase $5 coupon books with bonus savings, and the center’s iconic castle wall will once again be draped with the World’s Largest Breast Cancer Awareness Ribbon, a striking reminder of hope and visibility.
Tanger Outlets is continuing its TangerPink initiative nationwide with a series of themed events throughout October. On October 4, Savannah, GA will host a Wellness Day featuring yoga and a health fair, while Asheville, NC will hold a Pink Pop Barre class with giveaways and donation perks. The celebrations continue on October 11 with a family-friendly Pink Fiesta in Fort Worth, TX, a “Wicked Pink” movie night with live music in Nashville, TN, and the Pretty in Purpose Pink Party in Palm Beach, FL, complete with flower crowns and a charm bar. Gonzales, LA will also honor the month with a remembrance tree and community activities. Since 1994, Tanger has raised over $19 million for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, showing how retail can sustain long-term impact.
Simon Malls, Premium Outlets, and Mills are also joining the cause with their Shop With Purpose campaign in partnership with Susan G. Komen®. Shoppers who donate $10 receive a Digital Savings Pass valid at dozens of participating stores. To increase visibility, centers will be decorated in pink and even staff uniforms will reflect the theme. At Lenox Square in Atlanta, the month culminates with the More Than Pink Walk on October 25, a day of wellness, entertainment, and fundraising. With more than 80 centers participating, Simon’s efforts are among the most wide-reaching retail awareness campaigns in the country.
The Heart Behind the Pink
Behind every pink ribbon is a person, a family, a story. Retailers embracing Breast Cancer Awareness Month aren’t just decorating their spaces, they’re raising voices, funding research, and reminding us that communities are stronger together.
At Blue Butterfly, we believe wellness, beauty, and purpose go hand in hand. This October, as you stroll through your favorite shopping centers, look for pink banners, donation drives, and wellness pop-ups. Your small action, whether it’s a $10 donation, sharing a post, or attending an event contributes to a much bigger movement.
Together, we shop with purpose. Together, we think pink. Together, we move toward hope and healing.
